A theme that was on our mind when designing the WASTE No More app was environmental consciousness. To acheive this aesthetic we chose a restrained color palatte. Our objective was not to use very bright, radient colors that would create light waste.
While the design is minimalist and restrained we wanted to make the data king. Through a combination of iconograohy and type we kept the statistics legible and digestable.
Iconography is an important method of communication in this design. It became immediately apparent recycling is not as easy as it looks (in fact, it can be really confusing). To ensure users are not overwhelmed, we simplified the functionality and information necessary to properly recycle by using visuals rather than wonky policy jargon.
This IOS application provides users tools and information to make day-to-day waste reduction, product reuse and recycling easier than it looks. We’ve partnered with the City of New York to bring residents, businesses, schools and institutions filtered access to the City’s vast library of resources all in one place. The application is engineered using the latest version of Swift for iOS.
New York City is only the beginning. As the project matures, WASTE No More aims to be the change agent that connects consumers with programs and partners to reduce the amount of waste we produce all across the country. As more and more residents, schools, and businesses participate, we ensure long-term sustainable success for our planet.
